Signs of recovery in the tourism industry were seen after the prolonged effect of financial tsunami occurred for a year.
It is reported that airlines will add several tens of extra flights to mainland China during Lunar New Year holidays to accommodate the surging travel demand. The adding flights still fall into the most popular destinations such as Mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan.
The volume of passenger records 358,902 in January in MIA, rose by 4.8% compared with the same period last year. It is mainly benefited from the gradual recovery in the global economy, particularly China"s economic recovery is powerful, which leads to the growing of Macau"s tourism industry. In addition, the Valentine"s Day falls on Lunar New Year holidays in this year, which greatly increases the travel intention of Macau citizens. It is estimated the total passenger volume will surmount the same period last year in the Lunar New Year holidays
In order to accelerate the recovery paces of Macau"s aviation industry, MIA has revised the incentive policies of developing new routes to the airlines, which have been approved by AACM, aiming to strengthen and assist the airlines to expand new routes and markets while reducing the costs of operation at the same time, and to tide over the difficulties. Last year, MIA helped several airlines to restart air services to Malaysia, Thailand and Mainland that were previously stopped, and helped to open new routes for Penang, Laoag, Nanning, Melbourne and Sapporo successfully. After the launched of Air China code sharing with Air Macau for the new route between Macau and Wuhan on 15th January 2010, Viva Macau will launch 3 flights weekly to Hanoi from 13 February.
With the further recovery of global economy and further development of Macau"s tourist industry, we are confident that more airlines will begin launching new air services and routes to MIA in order to cater to the demand of the market.
